How Much Does Food Poisoning Cost?

For those of you that haven’t heard, recently I had a very bad round of food poisoning. I won’t name the restaurant because some companies use Google to hunt down any negative opinions and destroy them from existence (S******!).

A few days ago, I got my bill in the mail (paid for in full by my insurance company). Here was a breakdown of the costs:

  1. Zofran 4MG – $21
  2. Baxter Primary set – $16
  3. NS 1000ML 0.9% Sodium Chloride -$60
  4. Ativan – $21
  5. NaCl 10ML Sodium Chloride flush – $21 (NaCl is salt…)
  6. Emergency Department Visit Level III – $367
  7. IV Infusion Therapy – $181
  8. IV Meds / Fluids – $212
  9. Lomotil tablet – $5

In total, $900. All I had to pay for was my $75 copay for the trip to the ER. The total time spent in the ER was around 4-5 hours. Most of this time I was asleep. I am fortunate enough to have had insurance, but I worry about those that do not. If I had known it was going to be $900, and I didn’t have insurance, I probably would not have gone possibly endangering myself from compounded medical issues.

Its my opinion that these costs are the result of a sue-happy nation. I would like to support any presidential candidate that supports Tort Reform as a way to combat rising health care costs.

Sorry to here that….. Ya food poisoning is bad stuff. I am glad you are ok and your insurance covered it. You have PPO or HMO?

On the other comment regarding people checking for negative product reviews and such on sites and sewing them and what not… Ever since your site got looked at or changed. I have had this Attributor Corporation hitting ever page on my site. Must be a bot going through the link on your site.. 😛 Looking at all of my content and from what I read crosschecking to see if it is original work.

Wow, food poisoning is the pits. I’m really sorry you had to deal with that. I suppose you won’t be going to that restaurant again any time soon, because we all know that when something makes you sick, you give it up for at least two years. 😛
