Yeah man, our patent system is royally fucked up, or at least the guidelines by which they accept patents.
I really think that there should accompany each patent something tangible with it for the patent officer to consider. Also, common sense should be applied (laser pointer cat exercise? WTF) along with requiring some sort of specificity (wireless email or incapacitating ‘laser-like’ ray, for example).
