Gutsy Gibbon reaches Beta status

The Ubuntu team announced yesterday that version 7.10 is now in beta – the final mark before it rolls out sometime next month. One of the things that I have advocated is that hundreds of notebooks need to be extensively tested to iron out all of those little model specific “gotcha’s”. I was very impressed to find the following chart for my Dell D830 outlining what is working, and what is still being fixed:

The list is VERY comprehensive. I get so sick of the testing mentality of “it turns on, so its all working”. In addition to showing what is not supported, you can view the reported bugs and their progress.

Great job Ubuntu team! I look forward to an incredible release with the confidence of extensive testing.
