ATI has announced on ExtremeTech that starting with Catalyst 7.1, the OpenGL driver set will be unified for Windows Vista and Linux. Currently, ATI has two completely different driver lines. Linux pulled the short stick due to market share, and it has no where near the support, or stability of its Windows counterpart. Well, no more – finally Linux will be getting the ATI driver that it needs. Its not open source, but it sure is the next best thing.
For those not keeping up with progress, the merger with AMD has really pulled ATI out of shit creek with the 8.35.5 driver package featuring the Catalyst Control Center: Linux edition.
yay! a year late!
