Finals are right around the corner. I am not excited about them, rather I am excited about being done with my bullshit classes. Based on what I have seen recently, I am going to sum up higher education as a waste of time. For my internship, I have to turn in a 30 page deliverable. The problem is, I also have to have a website with the same content mirrored. Now, if I have to turn in the deliverable, what was the point in me making a website?

Arrgh! Anyways I have been playing a lot of DDR lately (damn you John Templeman!). For those people that have a remote interest, but are not sure where to start, check out Stepmania. It is a free open-source DDR equivalent. Now, of course you will need to by some DDR mats, and probably a PS2 > USB converter from Lik-Sang to get the full experience. It is a good workout, and I recommend it to anyone out there who finds video games more enjoyable than running on a treadmill.

I installed the Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter demo this week and gave it a test drive. It ran like crap on my machine for no apparent reason. I did notice after I closed the game however that there was a Ageia icon in my system tray. For those that don’t recognize the name, this is the company that is marketing the world’s first Physics Processing Unit (PPU). I have to admit, as much as I hate the thought of having to upgrade yet another component of my machine, the tech demos DO look really impressive. It will come down to the “chicken and the egg” concept though of implementation in games vs. justification of purchase for the consumer though. This is the first game I am aware of that takes advantage of the new hardware on PC.

I checked out the latest Ubuntu 6.06 beta this afternoon and I have to report that I am pretty disappointed. The live CD couldn’t even start the X server (and I have an nVidia card!) and the overall features seems to be just a reworking of 5.10. I hope that they really beef it up soon as I was hoping for this to be a killer OS. If the current state of affairs keeps up, I might find myself moving to another distribution. But time will tell on that – I will at least give them the courtesy of waiting until it is a final product in June.

I would also like to congratulate the project team Minervia on a fine release. The HUB will know what I mean by this come tommorrow morning. Outstanding job! I really appreciate all of the hard work that was put into making this a quality product.
